Hello in Filipino
In Filipino (Tagalog) there is no exact translation for the word “hello.” Therefore, you will find that iinstead of “hello” people are greeted by saying the following:
Good Morning (Mandang Umaga)
Good Noon (Mandang Tanghali)
Good Evening (Magandang Gabi)
Good morning Mr ……. – Magandang gabi po, Ginoong ……..
Note that, Ginoo means Mr. and where the dots appear you would insert the person’s last name.
Good morning Mrs ……. – Magandang gabi po, Ginang ……….

How are you ? (formal) – Kumusta po kayo?
How are you? (informal) – Kumusta ka na?
The English words “hello” and “hi” are also used in the Philipines. The words “ho” or “po” are added to show respect. Mr/Mrs are also sometimes used instead of Ginoo/Ginang which are the words for Mr and Mrs respectively.
Examples:
Hello Mr ……… – Hello ho, Mr. …….
Hi, Maam ……. – Hi po Maam ……….
